"The voice of weeping shall be no more heard."

For behold, I create Jerusalem as a rejoicing, And her people a joy. I will rejoice in Jerusalem, And joy in My people; The voice of weeping shall no longer be heard in her, Nor the voice of crying. (Isa 65:18-19)

Shalom from Jerusalem! This week, we were able to start scheduling home-visits again. We made the decision to make the trip to Bet Shemesh, which is just outside Jerusalem, and taking a step of faith with the van which does not do well in the summer heat! We were so glad and blessed we did! We were able to visit two families and bless and encourage them in practical and hopefully spiritual ways as well. The first family we visited was a Tabelski Vera and her husband Gridnov Yosef, who are both bed ridden. They have immigrated from Russia 10 years ago and have lately fallen on difficult circumstances. Yosef, recently out of the hospital from open heart surgery and also suffering from diabetes, and Vera, who has broken her ankle and is waiting for surgery herself, but is very apprehensive to go as that will leave her husband unattended while he recovers. She was in tears as she was telling us of her fear that he will not take his medication at the right times or not at all! They have a 15 year old granddaughter visiting for a few weeks, but they are nervous as to what will happen when she leaves.

Eric, Yosef, Vera and Luda (from right to left)
Our 'normal' procedure is to give food coupons they can use at the store for their needs, however as they are both invalid and unable to leave, we delivered a load of groceries to them. They were extremely blessed as the kitchen was quite bare. We were then able to share the Lord with them and pray with them. The amazing part, is they have been here for 10 years, and were given a business card from For Zion's Sake 9 years ago, and had held on to the card in case "someday" they needed our help. We were reminded of the verse that the Lord's Word never returns void and we never know the lives we touch with our examples, or the effect that may happen in God's perfect timing. Please join with us in prayer for this family: for speedy recovery of Yosef, for the schedule to operate on Vera's ankle, and for local support as they go through this difficult time.

The second stop in Bet Shemesh, was another difficult story and set of circumstances. This woman, also a Russian immigrant, is 52 years old, although she looks much older and is 100% disabled. She is renting a small apartment underneath another house and it only has one small window. The apartment is clean, but cramped and without natural light. She has been on a waiting list for government housing for some time, which would be a big improvement for her.

Olena and Raisa
Her situation is: she is the sole caregiver of HER mother, Raisa, who is 87 and in very poor health. Her mother is a holocaust survivor and lost her grandmother and sister to a group of Nazi soldiers who invaded Ukraine and put them, along with others, in a cave and sealed the entrance, leaving them to starve inside. She showed us documentation of testimony of the actions of the soldiers. Olena lives and cares for her in her home and as we visited, she was asleep and looked like she does not have long to live. It is a difficult struggle on what she felt was "abandoning" her to a care facility where she knows she will not last long, or to continue doing the best she can in honoring her mother. Not an easy decision for any child with aging parents. The biggest challenge for her, it seemed, beside the intense amount of energy required to care for her (changing clothing, etc.) is the drain financially on her for the required medication. That is where we felt compelled to help. We made a small donation toward her medication costs, and we want to commit to helping her until her mother passes away. Please pray and see if God is leading you to help in this woman's life. The commitment we are asking for is: $150 a month, for a 6 month minimum. We were able to pray with her for specifically: God's will concerning her mother, Olena, on the waiting list for another apartment, and financial help during this time.

Saying good-bye Again :( We also had to say good-bye to a faithful friend of our ministry and member of our congregation, Carolina. Carolina has been living in Jerusalem, volunteering with a Christian guest house and attending our Friday night service for 2 years. She is originally from Columbia and translates the service into Spanish. Her time in Israel has come to an end and she is looking forward to her next adventure, serving the Lord in London, England.

Carolina (center) with the FZS family
First, she is taking a short break and travelling back to Columbia to visit with family before starting in London. She has been very blessed by her time in Israel and has made many life-long friends. Her bright smile, friendly attitude and obvious love for the Lord is evident to all around her and she will be greatly missed, but we're excited to hear how she is being used as she goes. Prayers for Carolina: Safe travels to Columbia, good visits with saved and un-saved family, visa details in England, thankfulness for the opportunity to serve in England, and for the Peace of Israel!
With Love and blessings from all of us! Bradley Antolovich and staff

Grace and Repentance

Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. (Ro 12:14-16)

Weeping with those who Weep: Tisha B'Av
If you had been at the Western Wall last Monday night, you might have sat and prayed or you might have simply stood, but what you certainly would have done is observed the beginning of an all-night watch for the following day. It is a historical day in Jewish history: Tisha B'Av, or the Ninth of Av. Tisha B'Av is an annual fast for what is often termed the saddest day in Jewish history. This date in the Hebrew calendar marks the destruction of both the first and second temples, the decision of the ten scouts (and subsequently the nation of Israel) under Moses to turn away from the Promised Land, the failure of Bar Kokhba's revolt against the Romans, and the razing of Jerusalem in 70CE by the Romans. As the sun set Monday, groups of people began making their way down to the Western Wall, the closest remnant now to what used to be and the continual site of Jewish supplication.

Some had pillows, some had chairs; some stood, some sat, and some prostrated; some prayed silently, some sang, and some, true to the alternate name for the Wall, wailed. The fast lasted around 25 hours as people abstained from food and drink and traditionally also did not bathe, use oils or creams, or wear leather shoes. In an attitude of mourning they did not work, did not greet one another with idle conversation, and many sat on low stools. All these actions served as tangible reminders for repentance, outward displays of what was happening within both individuals and Israel as a nation. They also help remind us to continually present ourselves in repentance and offer prayers for those whose eyes are blinded, never forgetting about God's people. While the fast is meant to commemorate the tragedies and hardships that have befallen the Jewish people in the past, in some ways it also reflects the persecution that still plagues Israel and the fact that her people have managed to survive through it all. It is these hardships that we pray against, this support that we work towards, and these people that we continue to assist and care for with the love of Yeshua, both in Jerusalem and in Switzerland....

We recently learned that the next 20 ft. container of NEW clothing from the Helping Hands Foundation in Sweden is almost completed and ready for shipping, Praise God! There were so many needy families and individuals that were blessed by the first container that was sent, so we are very grateful that the Lord will allow us the privilege of distributing another. Would you please pray for a smooth transition through all of the "red tape" in the transport world, and the necessary finances to cover all shipping and customs fees. Each container shipped costs about $7000 door to door.

It is donations such as these that give us opportunities to continue to minister to families like Sonia's, who recently immigrated from Russia. Sonia lives with her daughter, Rita, and her grandson, Slava, Sonia's mentally challenged brother, is also part of the family. Rita's husband has returned to Russia, unable to live in Israel, leaving his family behind with no support.

Sonya receiving FZS aid from Luda
They rent a small, cold, and damp apartment. All of their furniture they found by digging through the garbage. When we first met them and asked what they needed, they simply requested help with a bed for the mentally ill Slava. This is a needy family who went through an intensely difficult process of immigration. We have since had the opportunity to aid them with furniture and food coupons monthly, provide them with new clothing several times, invite them to Jewish feasts with our fellowship of believers, take them to see biblical sites in Israel and visit them periodically in their home. One of the most important aspects of our ministry is keeping in contact with families that we help and continuing to show them God's never-failing love: the Bardishev family is just one example of this.

Also in July, some of our FZS staff had the opportunity for a brief retreat at the Schönegg House in Switzerland for two weeks. Sergei, Lena and Luda all had a wonderful time of rest and fellowship while rejoicing in the Lord together. We are nevertheless happy to have them back in Jerusalem with fresh vision and renewed strength!

Return to your rest, O my soul, For the Lord has dealt bountifully with you. (Pr 3:25-26)

ELIZABETH SAYS GOODBYE TO FZS… AND WE SAY THANK YOU! "I have had the opportunity to work with For Zion's Sake for the past two months, and I am so grateful for everything I have experienced. I have learned so much from watching the staff on a day to day basis, seeing them put their faith in action and work with excellence in everything. While sad to leave, I look forward to hearing about where God takes FZS in the next few months and cannot thank everyone here enough for their love and friendship. God Bless you all!" Thank YOU Elisabeth for your faithful service and gentile smile you blessed us all with… You will be in our thoughts and prayers!

Elizabeth and Lena

IN CLOSING… This may be a little off subject, however I thought the following information is valuable enough to share with you anyway and you can prayerfully discern its importance. The scriptures clearly tells us that our bodies are the Temple of His Holy Spirit and that He dwells within us!..
Don't you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? (1Co 6:15)

What? don't you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's. (1Co 6:19-20)
The old adage, "You are what you eat" could never be truer than today. I believe with all my heart that we have a God given responsibility to know what we eat and protect ourselves from eating the wrong things if possible. One of the greatest sins in the US is gluttony. Food has become the god of millions. The God Word has much to say about man's eating habits. Many sicknesses and diseases that are plaguing the world over stem directly from unhealthy eating habits. How should we eat? How much should we eat? Are health foods the answer to our poor eating habbits? Does the Bible address these questions? Yes, the Word of God has the answer to ALL our questions as to what is healthy for us to eat and how we are to eat…
Food:The Ultimate Secret Exposed -

EAT GOD'S APPROVED FOODS LISTED IN THE BIBLE: (By Betty Miller) A good guideline would be to eat "living foods." The natural, living foods are fresh vegetables, fruits, grains, meats and dairy products. The "dead foods" are those that are highly refined. They not only are expensive, but also in most instances do little to nourish. Many people are tired, run down and sick because a large part of their diets are made up of dead junk foods. We want to include at least an outline of some of God's approved foods to help people get started on the road to proper eating. Although this list is not complete, it does give the basic foods that the Bible lists as good to eat:
Barley---Ruth 2:23 Bread---Luke 22:19 Butter---Isaiah 7:22 Corn---Ruth 2:14; I Samuel 17:17 Cheese---I Samuel 17:18 Dates---Genesis 3:2 Eggs---Job 6:6 Figs---Numbers 13:23; I Samuel 25:18 Fruits(All)---Genesis 1:29 Herbs (Leafy Plants) and Vegetables---Genesis 1:29 Honey---Deuteronomy 8:8 Meats---(Beef, Fish,Lamb,Poultry,Venison) Deuteronomy 14; Leviticus 11 Milk---Isaiah 7:21-22 Nuts---Genesis 43:11 Olives and Olive Oil---Leviticus 2:4; Deuteronomy 8:8 Salt---Leviticus 2:13 Wheat (Bread, Cereal, Pasta)---Psalm 81:16
(1.) EAT IN MODERATION: Ask the Lord to help you eat the proper amount of food. Eat only until full. He will help you. He loves you and cares about you "Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand." ( Philp 4:5)
(2.) GET REGULAR MILD EXERCISE: Walking is an excellent form of exercise.
(3.) FAST PERIODICALLY: Fasting not only helps us spiritually, but also helps cleanse the body of toxins that can lead to sickness. As we seek the Lord in regard to our diets, He will gladly lead us in the right path. We must not get out of balance in this area and let menus and cooking absorb an exorbitant amount of time since this would be just as bad as ignoring diet altogether and eating anything we want. Here is a good verse to claim as we set our heart to overcome gluttony and the tendency to allow the enemy to tempt us little by little to fall into the trap of overeating. "Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. 4 Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practice wicked works with men that work iniquity: and let me not eat of their dainties" (Psalm 141:3-4)

Standing in the Strength of the Lord

"The Lord, the Lord, is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation." Isaiah 12:2-3

Shalom and greetings from FZS in Jerusalem! We have now begun to prepare and finalize details for the next group of 8 wounded soldiers we will be receiving August 10-17th to Schonegg House with our project, "Bridges of Blessings". Hopefully, ELAL Airlines will partner with us by discounting some of the airfare costs for these boys which would of course be a tremendous blessing as well! This time also we will be partnering with the Israeli Embassy in Bern who, having heard about our last outreach, sent us the following letter from their Military Attache...

Please pray for open hearts for these soldiers who will come and stay with us and that we can shine brightly the love of Yeshua with these wounded heroes! We will also be hosting a group of 8 Holocaust survivors from Israel 1 week later...

Wounded soldiers at Schonegg House

We also wanted to share with you the incredible story of Nadya Agranov, who is a 33 year old immigrant who came to Israel with her three children from lower Novgarod in 1997. Since coming she has had many financial and other such difficulties. Her two older boys were one hundred percent disabled from birth with brain atrophy. She divorced her husband just before coming to Israel and has no contact with him: she has no idea where he is and receives no alimony or support from him or the state because she has no papers to confirm that the children are his. Her mother immigrated with her and helped with the children, but could not work very much because she often had to take the boys to the hospital. Her two boys underwent countless surgeries over the years, leaving her with a huge amount of debt, but sadly four years ago the younger of the two boys died, and two years ago the older died as well.

Lena (left) writes down Nadya's (right) story
She remarried three years ago and has since had another child who is currently three years old. Her husband did not have Israeli citizenship for a long time, so he had limited job options and his work was very physically taxing. He injured his back and requires surgery (which they are unable to afford) so he cannot work right now. Her mom also became very sick and had surgery and chemotherapy. Living in Sderot has greatly affected her family due to the conflict there (Sderot has been targeted by Kassam rockets for the past seven years). There was one point in time several years ago where everyone on her street went to relatives or temporary housing to escape the bombing, but she was the only one who could not leave because the busses were not equipped to handle wheelchairs. At this time, the family was essentially fasting because they could not go outside their home due to constant (Seva Adom) red color warnings for rockets. Another time she was taking her daughter to school and as they were waiting for the bus there was a red color warning. She was afraid and did not know whether she should run home or run to the school, but while debating they saw the rocket land in the school yard. Her daughter was traumatized by the incident and is unable to hear the word red without reliving the event; she is currently in therapy for her shock.

Kassam rocket damage near Nadya's home
Nadya is a believer! and she knows that only God has given her the strength to withstand all these hardships and that He is even now helping her. We have been able to provide her with groceries and a place of support; as she told us her story, her eyes teared up, and she has asked us to visit her at home and to stay in contact. Nadya's story is not uncommon among those we come into contact with here at FZS, and we hope to continue to minister to and encourage her and her family.

Do not be afraid of sudden terror, nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes; for the Lord will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from being caught. (Pr 3:25-26)

Meet the Hemingway Family... This week we also welcomed a very unusual family, the Hemingways! Originally from Arizona, they come to us from the boat they have been living on and sailing in the Mediterranean for the past year and a half (yes, their name really is Hemingway). The Lord put this vision on their heart many years ago, to make the most of the few short years they have with their children. It has been an intense time of "learning the ropes" of a very different lifestyle and taking advantage of the many teachable moments along the way. Erik and Rachel, along with their 5 children: Maggie, Levi, Emma, Lily, Zoe, and Miles (who is on the way in two months!) will be staying with FZS for about 3 months. They have prayed for an opportunity to serve the Lord as they wait in Israel for Miles to be born and are excited to help For Zion's Sake. Erik, who has construction backround, is an answer to prayer for our current needs in and around the warehouse, and we are excited and glad to have the whole family here. It is refreshing to see their energy and the strength of their relationships with one another, and we cannot wait to welcome for the first time a baby to FZS Jerusalem!

The Hemmingway Family
When we first received the donation of clothes from Helping Hands Ministry, it was such a large amount that we were forced to simply pile huge bags of clothing everywhere in our warehouse. Thanks to the efforts of our volunteers installing hangers and moving clothing, we were able this past week for the first time in a year and a half to once again have our fellowship downstairs as Bradley taught here in Jerusalem. We appreciate so much the time and energy people have contributed in the past few weeks, and are excited about the direction we are headed as we continue to pray for guidance on how best to use the resources God has blessed us with.

New FSZ Fellowship Hall
In closing, we would like to make known that our accountant has just informed us that in 2010, we are receiving 29% less support than the previous year, and as a result, this has put quite a strain on our established ongoing projects. Would you prayerfully consider making a "special offering" this month to For Zion's Sake to help us continue reaching out to the poor and needy in Israel?

Shalom and Blessings! Bradley Antolovich and staff

• The Antolovich family - Please pray for the Lord's blessing this summer both for the kids as they start their holidays and for the many groups we will be hosting at Schönegg House. On August 10-17th we will be hosting another group of wounded soldiers and then on August 23-30th we will welcome a group of Holocaust Survivors. Please pray for Yeshua to be glorified through us and for provisions to cover all expenses. Please pray for Marianna's health and strength in serving.
• Sergei - Please pray that our time in Switzerland would truly be restful, and thanks to God for the opportunity to recharge and take a brief respite. • Lena - Please pray for our time of rest at the Schönegg and that things would continue to run smoothly at FZS during our absence. Pray for the new volunteers, that they would quickly feel at home with us and be blessed in serving. • Luda - Please pray for me as I take 2 weeks for my vacation time at Schönegg House, that my time with the Lord would be refreshing and I would be strengthened. Please pray for my children Vicka's and Misha's salvation. • Yoha - Pray for wisdom and direction during these next few weeks with a smaller staff, for energy and strength to work with excellence. • Hemingway Family - Pray for Rachel's health during the rest of her pregnancy (and Miles!). Adjusting to the apartment at FZS. Pray for our family as we seek direction from the Lord! • Elizabeth - Pray for discernment in how best to serve these next few weeks and for wisdom for upcoming decisions. • Israel - Please continue to pray for the salvation of the Jewish nation and that God would remove the blindfold from His people.
Thank you again for your love, prayers and support!

These past two week have been busy ones as, with many hands available to help, we have reorganized and consolidated much of our office space and clothing donation. Two members of the For Zion family who volunteered with us for three weeks had some backround in construction work and in two days managed to install enough racks to hang a majority of the clothing for easier access and a more efficient utilization of space. As a result, we were able to give large amounts of clothing to different churches and Bedouin tribes in the area who are in great need of such supplies. Below are pictures of the racks of clothing and the truck of clothes headed out to Bedouins:

However, even in the midst of restructuring there was still a steady stream of individuals and families coming in with a wide array of needs: Nela is a single mother we met as a new immigrant from Ukraine about three years ago. Lonely and struggling to adjust to a new culture apart from her family, we offered a home away from home and provided her with food coupons as she was unable to work at the time. When her source of income dried up, we also worked with her for necessities such as furniture. But life continued to be difficult for Nela, and after a six month absence where we did not hear from her, FZS staff recently got in touch and reconnected with her at a critical point in her life. It has been a visible transformation as Nela has opened up her heart to us and she has a newfound joy that is enabling her to make necessary changes. She is planning on returning soon to Ukraine to care for her sick mother and continuing to live in community and health, and we are so thankful to have had the privilege to experience life and growth with Nela over these past three years. For Zion's Sake also had the unique opportunity to provide these resources to the men and women serving their country in the army. Yael, one such Israeli soldier, came to FZS with a group of five of her colleagues to receive clothes and haircuts. After her visit, Yael sent a letter to our offices, thanking us for the work that we do. Her words, heartfelt and touching, were a powerful encouragement and affirmation to our work:
 Yael getting her hair cut

To For Zion's Sake, Shalom, my name is Yael and I'm 19 years old, And I serve in the IDF. I wanted to congratulate "For Zion's Sake" for the help they provide to the citizens of Israel, and to those that serve the Country. In a situation like we have right now, that the world is very anti Semitic against the state of Israel, it's really warms the heart and makes me happy to meet people like you. Your employees are great and lots of fun and its great meeting nice people like you. Thank you for your help to the State Of Israel, may God bless you and keep you safe always. Thank you very much, Yael, Neta, Alina, Anya, Moriya and Itai. (IDF Soldiers)
IDF Soldiers with Robin, one of our volunteers
This reflects the situation of many soldiers like Yael and her friends. In reality, a number of Israeli soldiers from Eastern Europe face financial difficulties while serving in the army. Without monetary support from their families, and living on a small army salary, these soldiers expressed their deep gratitude for the clothes which FZS was able to provide. With this large influx of clothing resources, it is clear that God has been working in mighty ways. We pray that the Lord will continue to use FZS to touch many lives and continue to broaden our target population from struggling citizens to devoted soldiers, and onto unknown horizons.

Over the past three months, FZS was blessed by the presence of Yoasha. An artist originally from Poland, Yoasha has a heart for Israel and an even bigger heart for the Lord. She has visited the country on numerous occasions and has been an active member of the FZS community for some time. Her involvement has been wide-ranging—from serenading the immigrants with some musical performances to painting small art pieces for us to sell. During her most recent stay, Yoasha was employed by Christ's Church located in the Old City of Jerusalem. We were sad to see Yoasha go as she just yesterday boarded a flight to Germany where she will be visiting an old friend from art school. After that ten-day trip, she expects to return to Poland to visit her family, although she calls herself "a pilgrim" and doesn't know where the Lord will direct her next. We pray that God will guide her path as she serves him and genuinely hope that he will lead her back to Israel in the near future.
 Yoasha from Poland
As we said goodbye to five of our volunteers from the past two weeks, sending them home with many free haircuts and home visits under their belts, we are very excited to welcome Bradley to Jerusalem this week. Here from the ministry branch in Switzerland to visit and encourage For Zion's Sake in person, we have thoroughly enjoyed his presence and are thankful for the Lord's provision with flights and schedules to make this visit possible. In the spirit of volunteering, we have added another body to the mix this week and next. Laura Kirchhofer is a student at the University of North Carolina who is majoring in International Relations and minoring in Business. As her first trip to Israel and, in fact, the Middle East, she feels she is finally getting used to the heat and dust and is enjoying experiencing the desert culture. With a heart for God's land and His people in Israel, Laura is excited to be on board, especially as she celebrates the beginning of her third decade of life. Happy birthday Laura!

Welcome to the Neighborhood: The images below are of two school vans that, this afternoon, were full of Jewish children on their way home. Just after dropping the last of the children off, both vans were hit by Molotov cocktail bombs, i.e. coke bottles filled with gasoline that were launched through the back windows into the seats. This occurred about a kilometer away from the FZS offices, and the vans are currently parked just outside our building. We truly do depend on God's grace to continue our work here and are thankful for His protection and your prayers.

To the least of these…

…Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.' ( Mt 25:40 )

This week, we have been given the privilege to be used as the Lord’s instruments in sharing His love and blessings to the "least of these" among the Jewish people. We wanted to share with you the story of two special families we visited, both struggling with the same problem: raising their disabled kids in the turbulent environment in Israel. The Vengerovech Family moved to Israel from Russia in November 2007 with 3 children. Their elder son Natan is blind from birth, suffers from Down syndrome, and only has a single kidney. In Russia because of his illness there were many problems. There was no care system for crippled children and people really shun cripples so it was taking a heavy toll on the mother, she was very depressed because of it. But upon arriving to Israel all of that changed. The child now studies in a special school, there is financial support from the state in the amount of 2300 NIS/month, and we helped the family with clothes and coupons for a children bed.
 Rivka and Irina
The second family of Bibinovech Rivka and Anatoly also moved to Israel from Russia in October 2009 with their 16 year old daughter Irina. Irina is blind from birth and autistic. They are very greatful to Israel for the way Irina is treated here. In the short time she has been treated here her parents have seen a positive change in her and now regret not coming sooner so that more could have been done for her. She is much more relaxed (she used to be very aggressive from time to time). She also goes to a special school here which at first she was afraid of and did not want to attend but now she really enjoys and looks forward to. Rivka and Anatoly just finished Ulpan and are very happy to be here and hope to find work soon. They are very glad about the way crippled people are treated here so that their daughter can go on trips and walks instead of being closed in the apartment all day like in Russia. We helped them also with coupons for 2 beds and with clothing. Anatoly worked 2 months for us cleaning the hallway and stairways.
Luda our FZS social worker and Irina
This week we also continued to distribute the new clothing we received from the container sent from "Helping Hands Ministry" in Sweden. We are so grateful that the Lord has provided such an abundance for us to share His love with many needy New Immigrants. Here are a few pictures of the thankful faces at our distribution warehouse:

During the last several weeks, so much has been happening here at For Zion's Sake. The Lord has brought such a diverse group of believers to serve with us and we are so honored to have them. Let me introduce them to you.
 Tabitha
Tabitha is an electrical engineer from Huntsville Alabama. Before coming to For Zion's Sake, she participated in a two week archaeological excavation at Khirbet el Maqatir. She will spend two weeks volunteering at For Zion's Sake, then begin a short course at Jerusalem University College on the historical settings and geography of Israel. This is her first time in Israel, and she is enjoying new adventures God has planned.
 Elizabeth Smith
Elizabeth Smith is a student at the University of North Carolina. Fresh from a semester in Paris, she came this week to For Zion’s Sake. This is her first time in Israel, and she desires to learn about the beginnings of her faith and to understand as much as she can about the people here. She senses God is moving mightily in Israel, and after less than a week in FZS she has already seen God’s love in action through this organization and in her conversations with people. She is excited to spend the next two months here and is looking forward to see what God has in mind!

Several years ago in Florida, the Lord birthed a desire in the heart of Robin Stuart, Linda Reinek, Vicki Unanan and Veronica Tranchina to serve in Israel. The Lord finally opened a door for them to serve at For Zion’s Sake for three weeks. During their time here they helped organize a recent shipment of clothes from a Swedish Humanitarian Aid organization for the new families moving back to their homeland as well as helping the staff of FZS in the office. The Lord gave them many opportunities to use their skills as hairstylists to bless the needy with fresh haircuts. But their greatest joy were the opportunities to share the gospel and see several people receive Jesus as Savior.
Robin and Linda giving a haircut
They have been particularly encouraged by the staff at FZS. Sergei, Lena, Luda and Yoha have been wonderful examples to them. They work so hard with such tender hearts and are a beautiful example of Jesus’ love.
 Vicky working on the computer
One of the highlights of their time at FZS was visiting families in their homes. It was a blessing for them to go and spend time with George and his family. George is six years old and moved to Israel from Ukraine. George doesn’t have use of his legs and is waiting for surgery in hopes that he will be able to walk. Please join us in praying for George. He is full of love and we are praying that Jesus will heal him and be glorified through his life!

Prayer Request. . .
• For Zion’s Sake - Please pray for wisdom and guidance as we seek the Lord's will for our Ministry. That we will be sensitive to His leading and courageous as we step out in faith
• The Antolovich Family - Please pray that we as a family would grow closer together in the Lord and our family devotion times would be Spirit filled. The kids are growing so fast and our desire is that they would follow the ways of the Lord in their personal lives. Please pray for Marianna and I to lead them as examples who live the Spirit filled life, living sincerely the very thing we desire to teach them! • Johana - Is a single Mom of a 7 and a half year old twin. She will be moving to a new appartment that has to be fixed asking for prayer that someone will be able to help her because she is overwhelmed with work. Also her mom is being deported; she is 70 years old and not in good health and has nowhere to go because all her children are here in Israel. • Nala - Please pray for guidance: she wants to go back to live with her mother after having been in an abusive relationship. She just got Saved and has no understanding of the Word and needs to be in the body to grow. Also pray for her son, he is in a depression just like his mom. • Alla - Please pray for her and her granddaughter relationship because her son and daughter in law are getting divorced and his wife wants to take her granddaughter away. • Yoasha - Please pray for her trip to Poland where she will meet with her father who is 80 years old, that she will be able to spend time with him alone so she can talk to him about Christ. Pray for wisdom and guidance for her. • Israel - Please pray for the Peace of Jerusalem and that many will come to know him in these troubled time we live in.

A BRUTAL AMBUSH AT SEA

Once again the world has united together in a swift condemnation of Israel's disproportionate use of aggression against the innocent, this time the victims were defenseless "peace activists" who were sailing in a convoy to bring humanitarian aid to Gaza...WRONG!
Ron Ben Yishai of YnetNews recounts bloody clash aboard Gaza-bound vessel: The lacking crowd-dispersal means, the brutal violence of 'peace activists,' and the attempt to bring down an IDF helicopter

Our Navy commandos fell right into the hands of the Gaza mission members. A few minutes before the takeover attempt aboard the Marmara got underway, the operation commander was told that 20 people were waiting on the deck where a helicopter was to deploy the first team of the elite Flotilla 13 unit. The original plan was to disembark on the top deck, and from there rush to the vessel's bridge and order the Marmara's captain to stop. Officials estimated that passengers will show slight resistance, and possibly minor violence; for that reason, the operation's commander decided to bring the helicopter directly above the top deck. The first rope that soldiers used in order to descend down to the ship was wrested away by activists, most of them Turks, and tied to an antenna with the hopes of bringing the chopper down. However, Flotilla 13 fighters decided to carry on. Navy commandos slid down to the vessel one by one, yet then the unexpected occurred: The passengers that awaited them on the deck pulled out bats, clubs, and slingshots with glass marbles, assaulting each soldier as he disembarked. The fighters were nabbed one by one and were beaten up badly, yet they attempted to fight back. However, to their misfortune, they were only equipped with paintball rifles used to disperse minor protests, such as the ones held in Bilin. The paintballs obviously made no impression on the activists, who kept on beating the troops up and even attempted to wrest away their weapons.

The second error was that commanders did not address seriously enough the fact that a group of men were expecting the soldiers on the top deck. Had they addressed this more seriously, they may have hurled tear-gas grenades and smoke grenades from the helicopter to create a screen that would have enabled them to carry out their mission, without the fighters falling right into the hands of the rioters, who severely assaulted them.

'I saw the tip of a rifle' One soldier who came to the aid of a comrade was captured by the rioters and sustained severe blows. The commandos were equipped with handguns but were told they should only use them in the face of life-threatening situations. When they came down from the chopper, they kept on shouting to each other "don't shoot, don't shoot," even though they sustained numerous blows. The Navy commandos were prepared to mostly encounter political activists seeking to hold a protest, rather than trained street fighters. The soldiers were told they were to verbally convince activists who offer resistance to give up, and only then use paintballs. They were permitted to use their handguns only under extreme circumstances. The planned rush towards the vessel's bridge became impossible, even when a second chopper was brought in with another crew of soldiers. "Throw stun grenades," shouted Flotilla 13's commander who monitored the operation. The Navy chief was not too far, on board a speedboat belonging to Flotilla 13, along with forces who attempted to climb into the back of the ship. The forces hurled stun grenades, yet the rioters on the top deck, whose number swelled up to 30 by that time, kept on beating up about 30 commandos who kept gliding their way one by one from the helicopter. At one point, the attackers nabbed one commando, wrested away his handgun, and threw him down from the top deck to the lower deck, 30 feet below. The soldier sustained a serious head wound and lost his consciousness. Only after this injury did Flotilla 13 troops ask for permission to use live fire. The commander approved it: You can go ahead and fire. The soldiers pulled out their handguns and started shooting at the rioters' legs, a move that ultimately neutralized them. Meanwhile, the rioters started to fire back at the commandos. "I saw the tip of a rifle sticking out of the stairwell," one commando said. "He fired at us and we fired back. We didn't see if we hit him. We looked for him later but couldn't find him." Two soldiers sustained gunshot wounds to their knee and stomach after rioters apparently fired at them using guns wrested away from troops. 2 errors During the commotion, another commando was stabbed with a knife. In a later search aboard the Marmara, soldiers found caches of bats, clubs, knives, and slingshots used by the rioters ahead of the IDF takeover. It appeared the activists were well prepared for a fight. Some passengers on the ship stood at the back and pounded the soldiers' hands as they attempted to climb on board. Only after a 30-minute shootout and brutal assaults using clubs and knifes did commandos manage to reach the bridge and take over the Marmara. It appears that the error in planning the operation was the estimate that passengers were indeed political activists and members of humanitarian groups who seek a political provocation, but would not resort to brutal violence. The soldiers thought they will encounter Bilin-style violence; instead, they got Bangkok. The forces that disembarked from the helicopters were few; just dozens of troops – not enough to contend with the large group awaiting them.

"Set up the standard toward Zion. Take refuge! Do not delay! For I will bring disaster from the north, And great destruction... " (Jer 4:6)

Dear brothers & sisters…
Anyone who has been following insider intelligence reports spilling out of Israel lately, knows that the threat of war is looming once again from Israel's Northern border. I believe, this is not just another doomsday threat meant to capitalize on sensationalism, sowing fear in the hearts of people, but rather a clear warning of what many Israelis are sensing is the lead up to another bloody conflict with Hezbollah, Syria, and possibly Iran in the very near future.
Just read some of the most recent headlines…
HOME FRONT DRILL AS TENSIONS RISE IN NORTH Israel's (LARGEST EVER) annual national home front exercise begins on Sunday, as Hizballah plays up fears in Lebanon that the drill means a conflict might loom with its southern neighbor. The exercise, "Turning Point 4," is due to last five days and be carried out in all parts of the country. During the first three days the drill will involve the Israel Defense Forces' various command centers, the police, emergency services, ministries and other government offices. The exercise, will be broadened on Wednesday to include civilians, with a siren sounded at 11 A.M. throughout the country. Civilians will have to seek cover in shelters or other secure areas. (Haartez 5/23/2010)
HEZBULLAH RECIVED HUNDREDS OF SYRIAN MISSLES "Recent transfers are only the tip of the iceberg" Hizbullah has received hundreds of advanced surface-to-surface missiles from Syria that are capable of targeting Tel Aviv and causing extensive damage to Israel in the event of a future war with the Iranian-backed Shi'ite guerrilla groups, it was recently revealed. Meanwhile, Brig.-Gen. Yossi Baidatz, head of Military Intelligence's Research Division, told the Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee on Tuesday that Syria was unquestionably transferring long-range rockets to Hizbullah, and that the recent reported transfers were just "the tip of the iceberg." (JPost 05/05/2010)
US INTEL: 5000 HIZBALLAH FIGHTERS TRAINING TO SEIZE GALILEE TOWN Jones was not talking out of the top of his head, but on the strength of solid US intelligence gathered over months on detailed war plans Iran, Syria, Hizballah and Hamas have drawn up to send five Hizballah brigades sweeping across the border to seize five sectors of Galilee, while also organizing a massive Israeli-Arab uprising against the Jewish state. Hamas would open a second front in the south and in the east. Syria is expected to step in at some stage (DEBKAfile 2/2010 )

SYRIA, HIZBALLAAH BUILDING MASIVE WALL IN EASTERN LEBANON Hizballah and Syria are building a massive fortified wall, running from Rashaya Al-Wadi on the western, Lebanese slopes of Mt. Hermon (85 kilometers southeast of Beirut) in the south, to the Lebanese Beqaa Valley town of Aita el-Foukhar, in the north, debkafile's military sources reveal. (DEBKAfile 5/15/2010)

ALL THREE ARMIES ARE PRACTICING WAR SCENARIOS Symptoms of approaching war proliferate around Israel, Syria and the Lebanese Hizballah this week. After Israel called up its reservists for a major war game, Hizballah accelerated the building of new fortifications in Lebanon... (DEBKAfile 5/13/2010)
US BEGINS MASIV AIR-SEA-MARINE BUILDUP IN MIDDLE EAST A US Carrier Strike Group headed by the Harry S. Truman sails out of Norfolk, Virginia Friday, May 21, as the first element of a new American military buildup in the Middle East which It will reach peak level of four-to-five aircraft carriers, most stationed opposite Iranian shores, in late July. (DEBKAfile 5/13/2010)
And perhaps the most revealing of signs for this seemingly inevitable conflict is from former US Major General Paul E. Vallelywho warns of a chemical attack against Israel this summer including chemically armed SCUD missiles with a 450 km range… preemptive strikes on air fields, and a wave of tunnel attacks that cross from Lebanon into Israel.

What should I do? Pray! and remember the words of Yeshua who said…
Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains” (Matt 24:6-8).
As the birth pangs increase in speed and intensity, we will know we are getting closer to the end – which will really be the beginning of His Kingdom to be established in Jerusalem!
We must not panic as if the end of the world is near, because the bible says these are the “beginnings of birth pains”… We must however intercede with fervent prayer as His Word teaches us to watch and pray You too can be a (IDF) prayer warrior, guarding the borders of Israel with blankets of prayer day and night; Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep (Ps 121:4)
PRAY THE WORD OF GOD…
-So he answered," Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them..."And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. So when the Syrians came down to him, Elisha prayed to the Lord, and said, "Strike this people, I pray, with blindness." And He struck them with blindness according to the word of Elisha. (2 Ki 6:16-18)
-You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day, Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. (Ps 91:5-6)
-No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is from Me," Says the Lord.
"Father, In Yeshua's name, do not allow the enemy to accomplish his plans and purposes. May Your will, and Your will alone, be done in Israel and the surrounding nations!" AMEN!
With love and blessings from Zion’s Sake Bradley Antolovich, family and staff

CELEBRATING THE PASSOVER
"Let the children of Israel keep the Passover at its appointed time. On the fourteenth day of this month, at twilight, you shall keep it at its appointed time. According to all its rites and ceremonies you shall keep it." (Nu 9:2-3)

Dear brothers & sisters…
his week we celebrated the Feast of Passover at our FZS headquarters in Jerusalem. With great joy and happiness we recited together that ancient story of our deliverance from slavery in Egypt to Freedom in the Promised Land. We also read from the traditional prayer book called, The Haggadah ( הגדה, "telling") which directs step by step the order of the Passover Seder. Reading from the Haggadah is actually a fulfillment of the biblical commandment to every Jew to "tell your son" about the Jewish liberation from slavery in Egypt as described in the Book of Exodus in the Torah. ("And thou shalt tell thy son in that day, saying: It is because of that which the LORD did for me when I came forth out of Egypt. " Ex. 13:8). For some of the new immigrants who joined us, it was their first Passover Seder they had ever experienced, which is for us one of the many blessings of serving the Lord here in Israel!

Passover in Jerusalem

Rejoicing!
Passover is the time to remember Israel's deliverance from slavery in Egypt and their redemption by the blood of a lamb's sacrifice which was applied on doorposts of their homes. Likewise for us as believers in Yeshua, we also remember that our very souls were redeemed by the precious blood of God's own Lamb, Yeshua. For it was during a Passover Seder over 2000 years ago in Jerusalem that Yeshua declared, as he lifted up the Cup of Redemption to bless it, He said "this cup is the cup of the New Covenant made in my blood so your sins may be forgiven…" Afterwards, He took the Matza (unleavened bread) and he also lifted it up to heaven and blessed it as He said, "this is my body which is broken for you eat this in remembrance of me…"
"Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us. Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. " ( 1 Cor 5:7-8 )

Are we truly FREE from sin?
Perhaps the meaning of Passover for the believer is summed up in John the Baptist’s revelation when he saw Yeshua:"Behold! The lamb of God, who comes to take AWAY the sins of the world!"(Jn 1:29) This is the gospel in its purest form. He did not come to save us IN our sins, but He came, to save us FROM our sins. There is a difference. Jesus, after being baptized and overcoming the temptations and trials in the wilderness, proclaimed, "the Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor, He sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are downtrodden, to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord."(Lk 4:18)
He came to set the captives free, Hallelujah! Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom. (2Co3:13) The world promises a deceitful freedom TO SIN, a freedom to do whatever we want in order to fulfill the desire of our flesh which eventually leads to death. The true Freedom in Christ is a freedom FROM SIN in which He has set us free from the power of sin and death!
"Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified (Passover Sacrificed) the flesh with its passions and desires." ( Gal 5:24 )
True freedom is the choice and the ability to do whatever pleases the one who proved His love to us by dying in our place. He is the Redeemer of our souls and He alone is worthy to be worshiped. Not my will, but Yours be done. It is a true freedom from sin, from this destructive, corruptible flesh (sin nature). It is the freedom from self; self-worship, selfish ambition, selfish motives, self-love and self-exaltation. Yeshua is to be Lord of all. He must have pre-eminence (first place) in our lives because He will not and cannot dwell with our SIN! And that is why he has made us free from sin, so He might live in us!
I have been crucified (Passover Sacrificed) with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. ( Gal 2:20 )
Shalom and Happy Passover! Bradley Antolovich and staff

IF I FORGET YOU OH JERUSALEM
"Those that trust in the Lord Are as Mount Zion, Which cannot be moved But abides forever. As the mountains surround Jerusalem, So the Lord surrounds His people From this time forth and forever." (Psalm 125:1-2)

Shalom and greetings in Messiah Yeshua!
We are living in amazing prophetic days when the stage is being set for the fulfillment of biblical prophecy and never more so than in Jerusalem. When Yeshua walked the earth two thousand years ago, He expected the leaders among His people to understand the time of His visitation (Lk. 19:42-44) and urged His disciples to be aware of the signs of the times before His return at the end of the age (Mt 24).
The recent crisis in US-Israel relations, perhaps the worst in over thirty years, was sparked by an unexpected announcement by the Interior Ministry during the visit of Vice-President Joe Biden that 1,600 new housing units would be built in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Ramat Shlomo (which is mostly an Ultra-Orthodox area). Just last week, the Middle East Quartet met in Moscow to strongly urge Israel to freeze the new planned housing development.

WHY DO THE NATIONS RAGE?

Then on Tuesday, President Barack Obama held a one-on-one "closed door" meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House as Israel sought to smooth over a diplomatic storm sparked by the announcement of the new construction in Jerusalem.

THE BATTLE FOR JERUSALEM CONTINUES
Efforts to restore ties may have hit a roadblock, however, with the approval Tuesday of an even further 20 east Jerusalem homes at the site of the former Shepherd Hotel. The two leaders met for around 90 minutes. The White House had no immediate comment on what they discussed… Jerusalem is of course the diamond of Israel and yet it will soon become the heavy stone the nations will try to lift. The US has strongly urged Israel to STOP the housing development as a goodwill gesture of their commitment towards ‘peace’ negotiations with the Arabs. Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu has responded that he regrets the timing of the announcement and that Israel is willing to be flexible and extend gestures to their neighbors, but not in Jerusalem!
"And it shall happen in that day that I will make Jerusalem a very heavy stone for all peoples; all who would heave it away will surely be cut in pieces, though all nations of the earth are gathered against it." ( Zec 12:3)
"I will also gather all nations, And bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; And I will enter into judgment with them there On account of My people, My heritage Israel, Whom they have scattered among the nations; They have also divided up My land. . . . " (Isaiah 43:5)
The bible says that God will gather all the nations against Jerusalem including The United States of America! And when America finally turns to harm Israel, even though it will fulfill prophecy, I believe it will also bring about her downfall as a nation… Has this judgment began already? We must remember, Mount Zion cannot be moved, but the nations will try to remove the prophetic destiny of Jerusalem to become the joy of the whole earth and the city of the great King. No other city has such a glorious eternal purpose. Jerusalem will first become a cup of trembling and God Himself will gather the nations against the city that bears His Name. For a brief season, it may seem like the enemy is winning, just like when Yeshua was on the cross and it seemed like hell had the victory, but just as surely as He rose again, the future of Jerusalem in secure and sealed in Scripture. Whatever God permits to happen, temporarily, will only be for the purpose of drawing the remnant to Himself, compelling them to call for Yeshua in their time of desperation, and proving to the world that the God of Israel is the only true God and that Jerusalem will be the throne from which He will reign as King.

MT. ZION IN JERUSALEM

"Great is the Lord, And greatly to be praised, In the city of our God, His holy mountain, Beautiful in elevation, The joy of the whole earth, Is Mount Zion in the far north, The city of the great King."; (Psalm 48:1-2)

I Am Isreal...
I was born millennia before I was renamed Palestine by the conquering Romans, before Muhammad took his first breath, and before the U.N. decided to split me in half and turn my Eastern lands into Jordan. My people, the Jews, maintained communities here for three thousand years- that is until the Arabs decided to massacre those Jews without reason in 1920 and 1929. Hundreds of civilians were murdered, most of them women and children. Meanwhile, their brother Arab states massacred and exiled 1 million Arabic Jews from their lands-- erasing their history.
I am Israel -- I have been attacked four times by Arab armies since I declared independence in 1948. I told the Arabs who lived on my land that they were welcome to stay, but they were told by the neighboring states to leave temporarily while the Jews were "taken care of". I have been offering a message of peace since the day I was born, but my enemies answered only in bullets. I am a survivor--I won every war. Realizing they could not defeat me with arms, my enemies have turned to lies.
I am Israel -- Time and time again my name is smeared. Though each of these lies is eventually disproven, my enemies continue to claim I am committing genocide. Is giving educational opportunities to Palestinian Arabs "genocide"? 20% of the students in Haifa University are Arabs. If I am an aggressor who exiled all the Arabs in 1948, why are 20% of my citizens Arabs with full rights? Where did they magically appear from? Why did I give up the entire Sinai and the Gaza strip, uprooting my own people from their homes, only for the hope of peace?
I am Israel -- In combat, I risk the lives of my teenage sons and daughters in order to minimize civilian Palestinian casualties. I make every attempt to target only fighters, often putting my own soldiers in harms way. In wartime, I drop leaflets on areas to be attacked, warning civilians to evacuate. Has any other army in the history of mankind done this for its enemy? I waited 8 years to stop Hamas from its daily rocket attacks on my kindergardens and my hospitals. I am patient, but my patience is not infinite.
I am Israel -- I have created Intel and cell phone technology, medicine for devastating diseases, and I lead the world in scientific publications per capita. I send humanitarian missions to developing countries, including Muslim countries. I have absorbed hundreds of Muslim refugees who faced genocide in Darfur--refugees no Muslim state would take.
I am Israel -- I am one of the smallest countries in the world, and probably the most stubborn-I refuse to give up hope for peace. My friends support me not because of any lobby, but because they see the truth-- I am the heart of the Middle East, and the hope for its future. My prophet said, "Nation shall not lift up sword against nation," and I will try, and try, and TRY until those words are true.
Because I am Israel.
PLEASE PRAY FOR THE TRUE PEACE OF JERUSALEM...
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: May they prosper who love you. (Psalm 122:6 )
In Yeshua’s love, Bradley Antolovich and staff

My Cup Runs Over
"You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies: you anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over." (Ps 23:5)

Greetings dear family of God!
We want to begin this Prayer Update by giving thanks to the Lord who has been so faithful to all of us here at For Zion’s Sake Ministries! Not only does He so graciously supply for our daily needs, but He always provides us with abundance so that we are able to bless many others who come to our center seeking help. Here we should also say, Thank "you" also as so many of you have faithfully sown into this ministry through your prayers and finical support especially during this current economic crisis. May The Lord continue to Bless you and your families as you continue to Bless His people Israel. Gen 12:3.
This week we began the distribution of Humanitarian Aid we received from our friends, Sergiej and Susie at Helping Hands International. The container they sent to us from Sweden finally arrived only after a long delay because of customs red tape and "extra" fees they were demanding... PTL, H.H.I. also helped us with the funding needed to cover all the costs. Eventually, the trouble we experienced with customs was rewarded after we finally opened the container and saw the good quality of clothing that was donated. Everything was brand new! Thank you Helping Hands for giving the best for the poor and needy in Israel!
"All the best of the oil, all the best of the new wine and the grain, their firstfruits which they offer to the Lord, " (Nu 18:12) Here are some pictures of the container arriving at the FZS warehouse...

One of the ways FZS reaches out to the needy is by organizing clothing and blanket distribution days throughout the many different community centers in Jerusalem. The elderly are very grateful for theses outreaches because many find it difficult to travel to our warehouse by bus and afterwards carry the bags of aid they receive home again. Recently, we had several of these distribution outreaches, which are always lively occasions. They also provides us with opportunities to make personal contact with many new immigrants we would otherwise miss and invite them to fellowship with us...

In My Fathers House…
It is so wonderful to see the Lord working in the lives of those in need. This was clear to us during a home visit the other day we made to Maya S., who made Aliyah from Russia just a few months ago. (It is during these home visits that we are often able to share the love of Yeshua with those who meet). Like most new immigrants who arrive in Israel, Maya and her son came with what they could stuff in their suitcases. When we asked her why she made the move to Jerusalem? she answered, "this is the land of my fathers". Many immigrants answer that question the same way, as if something deep within their soul has called them back "home" to their Fathers House...
 Maya with son
Maya soon found a small room to rent where she could live with her son and so with their three suitcases, they moved into their first apartment in Israel. Only there was one big problem, they had no furniture not even a bed. Maya had been sleeping on the floor on an old foam matt with her son... Praise God, FZS was able to help this family not only with our food coupon program, we were also able to provide her with a new beds as well! -Please pray for Maya and her son’s Salvation as they begin their new life in Israel. -Please pray for the many opportunities to share His love with the other immigrants who come to us for assistance.

"Fear not, for I am with you; I will bring your descendants from the east, and gather you from the west. . . " (Isaiah 43:5)

Finally, I thought to share with you a very interesting piece of truthful advice I received from someone by email. The article was written by Kitty Werthmann, who was 12 years old when Adolf Hitler took power in Austria. She is now 83 years old and with a "vivid memory" Kitty shares what happened in her homeland after Hitler’s Socialist revolution. She witnessed the government take over the banks, auto industry, healthcare, education and finally FREEDOM...
Sound familiar?
THIS ARTICLE NEEDS TO GET IN THE HANDS OF EVERY PERSON LIVING IN THE UNITED STATES!! THIS IS WHERE WE ARE HEADED. PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE ARTICLE.
Truly this is the Greatest Country in the World. Don't Let Freedom Slip Away
By: Kitty Werthmann

What I am about to tell you is something you've probably never heard or will ever read in history books. I believe that I am an eyewitness to history. I cannot tell you that Hitler took Austria by tanks and guns; it would distort history. We elected him by a landslide - 98% of the vote... I've never read that in any American publications. Everyone thinks that Hitler just rolled in with his tanks and took Austria by force.
In 1938, Austria was in deep Depression. Nearly one-third of our workforce was unemployed. We had 25% inflation and 25% bank loan interest rates.
Farmers and business people were declaring bankruptcy daily. Young people were going from house to house begging for food. Not that they didn't want to work; there simply weren't any jobs. My mother was a Christian woman and believed in helping people in need. Every day we cooked a big kettle of soup and baked bread to feed those poor, hungry people - about 30 daily.
The Communist Party and the National Socialist Party were fighting each other. Blocks and blocks of cities like Vienna, Linz, and Graz were destroyed. The people became desperate and petitioned the government to let them decide what kind of government they wanted.
We looked to our neighbor on the north, Germany, where Hitler had been in power since 1933. We had been told that they didn't have unemployment or crime, and they had a high standard of living. Nothing was ever said about persecution of any group -- Jewish or otherwise. We were led to believe that everyone was happy. We wanted the same way of life in Austria . We were promised that a vote for Hitler would mean the end of unemployment and help for the family. Hitler also said that businesses would be assisted, and farmers would get their farms back. Ninety-eight percent of the population voted to annex Austria to Germany and have Hitler for our ruler.
We were overjoyed, and for three days we danced in the streets and had candlelight parades. The new government opened up big field kitchens and everyone was fed.
After the election, German officials were appointed, and like a miracle, we suddenly had law and order. Three or four weeks later, everyone was employed. The government made sure that a lot of work was created through the Public Work Service.
Hitler decided we should have equal rights for women. Before this, it was a custom that married Austrian women did not work outside the home. An able-bodied husband would be looked down on if he couldn't support his family. Many women in the teaching profession were elated that they could retain the jobs they previously had been required to give up for marriage.

Hitler Targets Education - Eliminates Religious Instruction for Children: Our education was nationalized. I attended a very good public school. The population was predominantly Catholic, so we had religion in our schools. The day we elected Hitler (March 13, 1938), I walked into my schoolroom to find the crucifix replaced by Hitler's picture hanging next to a Nazi flag. Our teacher, a very devout woman, stood up and told the class we wouldn't pray or have religion anymore. Instead, we sang "Deutschland, Deutschland, Uber Alles," and had physical education.
Sunday became National Youth Day with compulsory attendance. Parents were not pleased about the sudden change in curriculum. They were told that if they did not send us, they would receive a stiff letter of warning the first time. The second time they would be fined the equivalent of $300, and the third time they would be subject to jail. The first two hours consisted of political indoctrination. The rest of the day we had sports. As time went along, we loved it. Oh, we had so much fun and got our sports equipment free. We would go home and gleefully tell our parents about the wonderful time we had.
My mother was very unhappy. When the next term started, she took me out of public school and put me in a convent. I told her she couldn't do that and she told me that someday when I grew up, I would be grateful. There was a very good curriculum, but hardly any fun - no sports, and no political indoctrination. I hated it at first but felt I could tolerate it. Every once in a while, on holidays, I went home. I would go back to my old friends and ask what was going on and what they were doing. Their loose lifestyle was very alarming to me. They lived without religion. By that time unwed mothers were glorified for having a baby for Hitler. It seemed strange to me that our society changed so suddenly. As time went along, I realized what a great deed my mother did so that I wasn't exposed to that kind of humanistic philosophy.
Equal Rights Hits Home: In 1939, the war started and a food bank was established. All food was rationed and could only be purchased using food stamps. At the same time, a full-employment law was passed which meant if you didn't work, you didn't get a ration card, and if you didn't have a card, you starved to death... Women who stayed home to raise their families didn't have any marketable skills and often had to take jobs more suited for men.
Soon after this, the draft was implemented. It was compulsory for young people, male and female, to give one year to the labor corps. During the day, the girls worked on the farms, and at night they returned to their barracks for military training just like the boys. They were trained to be anti-aircraft gunners and participated in the signal corps. After the labor corps, they were not discharged but were used in the front lines. When I go back to Austria to visit my family and friends, most of these women are emotional cripples because they just were not equipped to handle the horrors of combat. Three months before I turned 18, I was severely injured in an air raid attack. I nearly had a leg amputated, so I was spared having to go into the labor corps and into military service.
Hitler Restructured the Family Through Daycare: When the mothers had to go out into the work force, the government immediately established child care centers. You could take your children ages 4 weeks to school age and leave them there around-the-clock, 7 days a week, under the total care of the government. The state raised a whole generation of children... There were no motherly women to take care of the children, just people highly trained in child psychology. By this time, no one talked about equal rights. We knew we had been had. Health Care and Small Business Suffer Under Government Controls: Before Hitler, we had very good medical care. Many American doctors trained at the University of Vienna. After Hitler, health care was socialized, free for everyone. Doctors were salaried by the government. The problem was, since it was free, the people were going to the doctors for everything. When the good doctor arrived at his office at 8 a. m. , 40 people were already waiting and, at the same time, the hospitals were full. If you needed elective surgery, you had to wait a year or two for your turn. There was no money for research as it was poured into socialized medicine. Research at the medical schools literally stopped, so the best doctors left Austria and emigrated to other countries. As for healthcare, our tax rates went up to 80% of our income. Newlyweds immediately received a $1,000 loan from the government to establish a household. We had big programs for families. All day care and education were free. High schools were taken over by the government and college tuition was subsidized. Everyone was entitled to free handouts, such as food stamps, clothing, and housing. We had another agency designed to monitor business. My brother-in-law owned a restaurant that had square tables. Government officials told him he had to replace them with round tables because people might bump themselves on the corners. Then they said he had to have additional bathroom facilities. It was just a small dairy business with a snack bar. He couldn't meet all the demands. Soon, he went out of business. If the government owned the large businesses and not many small ones existed, it could be in control.
We had consumer protection. We were told how to shop and what to buy. Free enterprise was essentially abolished. We had a planning agency specially designed for farmers. The agents would go to the farms, count the live-stock, then tell the farmers what to produce, and how to produce it. "Mercy Killing" Redefined: In 1944, I was a student teacher in a small village in the Alps. The villagers were surrounded by mountain passes which, in the winter, were closed off with snow, causing people to be isolated. So people intermarried and offspring were sometimes retarded. When I arrived, I was told there were 15 mentally retarded adults, but they were all useful and did good manual work. I knew one, named Vincent, very well. He was a janitor of the school. One day I looked out the window and saw Vincent and others getting into a van. I asked my superior where they were going. She said to an institution where the State Health Department would teach them a trade, and to read and write. The families were required to sign papers with a little clause that they could not visit for 6 months. They were told visits would interfere with the program and might cause homesickness.
As time passed, letters started to dribble back saying these people died a natural, merciful death. The villagers were not fooled. We suspected what was happening. Those people left in excellent physical health and all died within 6 months. We called this euthanasia. The Final Steps - Gun Laws: Next came gun registration... People were getting injured by guns. Hitler said that the real way to catch criminals (we still had a few) was by matching serial numbers on guns. Most citizens were law abiding and dutifully marched to the police station to register their firearms. Not long after-wards, the police said that it was best for everyone to turn in their guns. The authorities already knew who had them, so it was futile not to comply voluntarily.
No more freedom of speech. Anyone who said something against the government was taken away. We knew many people who were arrested, not only Jews, but also priests and ministers who spoke up.
Totalitarianism didn't come quickly, it took 5 years from 1938 until 1943, to realize full dictatorship in Austria... Had it happened overnight, my countrymen would have fought to the last breath. Instead, we had creeping gradualism. Now, our only weapons were broom handles. The whole idea sounds almost unbelievable that the state, little by little eroded our freedom.
After World War II, Russian troops occupied Austria. Women were raped, preteen to elderly. The press never wrote about this either. When the Soviets left in 1955, they took everything that they could, dismantling whole factories in the process. They sawed down whole orchards of fruit, and what they couldn't destroy, they burned. We called it The Burned Earth. Most of the population barricaded themselves in their houses. Women hid in their cellars for 6 weeks as the troops mobilized. Those who couldn't, paid the price. There is a monument in Vienna today, dedicated to those women who were massacred by the Russians.
This is an eye witness account. It's true. . those of us who sailed past the Statue of Liberty came to a country of unbelievable freedom and opportunity.
